Rick and Jane meet by chance and return to Rick's house - a meeting of stangers.
As the play progresses, we gradually learn the truth about this meeting - was it just by chance; had he engineered their meeting; he seems to know more about Jane's past than he should know.
Jane is not what she appears to be either.
By degrees, the two reveal increasingly more of their true identities and the crimes and violence that have linked them in the past.
